Published at DRS2026: The environmental citizen's playbook

I'm delighted to share that my Master's research has been published in the proceedings of DRS2026, the Design Research Society's biennial conference, held in Edinburgh this June.

The environmental citizen's playbook: A catalogue of playful participation for environmental action grew out of my thesis in Creative Sustainability. I co-wrote it with Ferran Altarriba Bertran and İdil Gaziulusoy. The paper starts from a simple question: with eco-anxiety now a household term, how do we keep showing up for environmental action without burning out?

Using a participatory research-through-design process, we mapped the "play potentials" in environmental action, the moments and relationships where playfulness already shows up naturally. Together with participants, we then imagined speculative interventions that could design for more of them. The paper argues for a more regenerative, joyful environmentalism, where playfulness counts as a real way of taking part rather than a distraction from serious topics.
