Earthmatters is Friends of the Earth's biannual magazine, sent to supporters across the UK to share campaign wins, grassroots stories and ways to get involved with the charity.
Since 2021, I've worked with the charity's team to design, illustrate and layout the magazine. Every issue covers a lot of ground, including legal victories against fossil fuel projects, water pollution, disability justice, and profiles of long-standing local campaigners.
The visual language uses a lively scrapbook-like approach which showcases the activist energy within Friends of the Earth and their important work. Photography is the primary visual choice, intended to keep real people at the centre of every story. Illustrations and playful decorative elements add energy and playfulness to the important topics showcased in the magazine.
Working within a template set by the charity's in-house team, I bring each issue to life with my own illustrations and collage work.
